AKIRA RECORDS HOSTS A SATURDAY NIGHT NORTH LONDON BONANZA
Gwenno Saunders is one of pop’s best subverters. Most people will know her from her vocal and song-writing duties with the Spinal Tap-riffic the Pipettes, others may know her from her Cornish and Welsh pop career which she lovingly refers to as ‘Gwenya.’ Others may in fact know her from her days in Lord of the Dance, ‘Challenge Gwenno’ or Pobol y Cwm. Regardless, Gwenno is known for her great pop songs across a wide sea of styles and emotions, from the domestic pillow talk argument of ‘U & I’ to the street beat, stick two fingers up at Debbie Harry (and Madonna) of ‘I’ve Been Searching,” Gwenno turns her feelings and experiences into technicolour pop of the highest calibre. Don’t miss this fantastic artist before she goes into hiding to record her new album.
VERSES & FRIENDS
(Kevin Tuffy, Tom Stock)
Verses is the brainchild of Ealing born Kevin Tuffy, an artist who is at once a modern day poet writing ‘Dylan-esque acoustic folk creations’ crafted with ‘the kind of knack that you thought died in the 70’s’, and protege of grime artist Sway with whom he collaborated on his first EP ‘To Be, To Begin’. Hailed as ‘another London born great’ on the rise and with a live show that is blindingly good, Tuffy’s set comprehensively catalogues the evidence of the depths of depravity to which his musical forays have descended.
It has been said that:
– “A room full of people will be quickly silenced after hearing the first two chords from his battered old guitar.’
– ” Loud, drunken students in the London pubs his show frequents will soon be lost in the stories he tells and the imagery he creates.”
Hosted by AKIRA.
The ethos of Akira is to feature nothing but good music, booking only talented artists either already with Label interest or on the cusp of bigger things – and as a result having good relationships with A&R.
We proudly present a selection of very talented artists as well as an afterparty thrown by Akira with DJs playing til well into the night! What’s not to go crazy for.
