24th November 2010 – Akira @ The Gramaphone

A great venue sitting in the heart of East London and its infamous music scene, The Gramaphone is one of the area’s finest, the real deal. Located just down from Spitalfields Market, and spread across two floors, it has a little of the New York loft vibe about it.

ESCAPISTS

Formerly known as ‘Heart on Fire’ who are regulars on the London gig circuit, Escapists under their new guise have a brilliant collection of songs. This amazingly anthemic band is a must see who hold themselves among the best in London, Escapists are about to take the capital by storm!

DIMBLEBY & CAPPER

Dimbleby & Capper is the alias of 22 year-old singer, producer and remixer Laura Bettinson. Hailing from the same South London / New Cross scene that produced Mercury nominees The Invisible and the highly touted Micachu, Bettinson has quickly built a reputation as a fearsome one-woman live act. Initially armed with only a lap-top and loop station, layering vocals and effects, D&C has managed to create something that’s both left field and hook-laden – experimental yet accessible, while taking in influences as far ranging as Bow Wow Wow, Cyndi Lauper, Beck and Radiohead.

NATHAN HOLME

The ultimate electronic one man band graces The Gramaphone with his presence.

SARAH WILLIAMS WHITE

South London alternative soul singer-songwriter Sarah Williams White constantly has music on the mind. A pianist since the age of seven and set up with a Cubase at thirteen, she hasn’t stopped creating since. Her first self-produced collection of songs ‘Fool’ has just had a limited release via Bandcamp and the lead track has been picked up by Radio 1’s ‘champion of new music’ Huw Stephens, who describes Sarah as “shimmering sunshine soul”.

£6 on the door.
