However never fear as Akira is still very much in the driving seat when it comes to showcasing you the best new bands and most exciting fresh talent on the London circuit. We’re now taking over the last Wednesday at Proud Camden – we’ve been promoted from the first Tuesday, it’s exciting times! and what about the line-up we have in-store for you?! Well read on…

Without further a do, we’ve arranged for you……

The Chemist by achilles sound

This month’s headliners are fucking genius, excuse my French. As a seven piece from Shaftesbury (?!), primarily instrumental band, Achilles have been hailed for their epic and engrossing live performances, leading to national airplay and support from Radio 1’s Rob Da Bank and Huw Stephens as well as Radio 6s Tom Robinson. Their 2009 main stage set at Camp Bestival caught the eye of Florence and the Machine’s Harpist Tom Monger, which led to a collaborative EP also featuring Alyusha Chagrin of The Boxettes and Shlomo’s Vocal Orchestra.

This is what he had to say about them – “Achilles are a unique and inspiring band and I feel very honoured to have been able to work with them.” Tom Monger (Florence and the Machine)

and if that isn’t enough to get you excited, we have more…

We’re big fans of this Dance-Rock band, with a front man who sounds like Chris Martin on drugs (Chris Martin on drugs? Never!). Formed in mid-2010, London-based trio Waylayers immediately set about crafting stunning atmospheric pop, fusing elements of Electronica and Indie-Rock with epic and melodious vocal lines and stunning hooks. They instantaneously caught the attention of the legendary Steve Lamacq who has already touted them as ‘unsigned band of the week’ on his 6music show. This buzz led them to the door of producer Ewan Pearson (Delphic) who straight away saw the band’s ability to create songs shot through with an effortless pop-nous. With a new era of Dance-Rock beckoning in 2012 Waylayers are going to be at the forefront of the revolution judging by their well-crafted and well-delivered set of songs.

Emi is an Aussie songstress, currently making music in London town. After being blown away by Emi, and her amazing band, at a lovely little folk festival – ‘Party 4 Patrick’ – in Surrey, we made it a mission to book her. It turns out this is going to be her last show in London before she heads back to Oz and makes it big, destiny calls and all that. SO right on time then. This really is your LAST chance to get down and see Emi Green, don’t pencil it in…scribble it in permanent marker. Miss this one… and there is no second chance! Ever!….or until she comes back to London…

First on the bill this month is Belfast based singer/songwriter – often found cavorting with percussionist Paddy McQueen and violinist Gascia Ouzounian. She calls herself Folk/experimental/Electroacoustic/Pop and uses voice, guitar and autoharp. She can also be spotted making strange sound installations in and around the countryside. WORD?! Isobel is a Composer, Musician and Visual Artist. She grew up just outside Brighton, studied Music in Devon, lived in London where she self released her first solo EP, and now lives in Belfast where she recently completed an MA in Sonic Arts at Queens University and is now studying for a PhD. Anyway her music is awesome, come early and make sure you see it.
