Akira’s Song of the Day: On an On – Ghosts

Akira’s Song of the Day comes from Chicago trio On an On. This is the best kind of Indie I’ve heard for a long while, it reminds me of Silversun Pickups and Broken Social Scene, and in fact On an On have shared Broken Social Scene’s producer Dave Newfield. On an On was born after Chicago outfit Scattered Trees disbanded, and thank god they did carry on. This band makes me wonder why is all the best kind of Indie from over seas nowadays? The UK effectively invented Indie but over the past ten years whilst I’ve generally been bored of all the Indie bands coming out of the UK, with very few exceptions, I’ve been loving bands from America and Canada; Interpol, Modest Mouse, Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene, Silversun Pickups, The New Pornographers, Tokyo Police Club, The Local Natives and now On an On. The UK in comparison has The Libertines, Maximo Park, Razorlight, The Fratellis, Kaiser Chiefs, The Vaccines, The Wombats, Glasvegas, Viva Brother and more recently bands like Palma Violets, PEACE, SWIM DEEP etc etc… These kind of bands make me think I don’t like Indie, but that’s just not true I just think we have very few brilliant Indie bands in the UK anymore and far too many overhyped crap Indie bands… so thank god for bands like Bloc Party (first album), Kasabian, The Maccabees, FOALS, Bombay Bicycle Club and Alt-J…

Anyway rant over, listen to this because it’s brilliant.
