Akira’s Song of the Day: Patrick Watson – The Great Escape

Akira’s Song of the Day comes from Canadian Patrick Watson. I’m surprised this guy doesn’t have more fans, just checking out his Facebook page he has about 62k ‘likes’, and that’s not a great deal as he’s been around writing music since the 90s, and seeing that Ed Sheeran has 2 MILLION, 128 THOUSAND, 1 HUNDRED and 57 ‘likes’ in just over two years. It’s a little upsetting as Patrick Watson is a lot better than Ed Sheeran, but then I guess it makes him more special, there’s something romantic about being underrated, something a bit Jeff Buckley about it. Speaking of which Patrick Watson reminds me of Jeff Buckley, or a male Regina Spektor, and a bit Rufus Wainwright, but better than him…

Patrick Watson is probably most well-known for co-writing and performing on The Cinematic Orchestra’s album Ma Fleur in 2007, and featuring on one of my favourite songs of all time ‘To Build A Home’. I thank Laurie from the Skeletory blog for playing ‘The Great Escape’ to me, I feel like this is another ‘To Build A Home’… it’s not quite as good but it’s still absolutely beautiful.
