I don’t just like to blog about people who I like as human beings as well as musicians, but it certainly helps, and often once I get to know artists as human beings they turn out to be divas, and then I can never support them again, and am put off listening to their music forever as it’s tainted. KHUSHI is as good a human being as he is as an artist, and he’s a bloody good human being – for both those reasons I really hope he does well, as he deserves it. In case you’re wondering he doesn’t actually have grey hair in real life, he’s a young man, that’s just FX on the photography… If KHUSHI keeps writing songs like ‘One For Me’ then I reckon it’s only a matter of time before he gets ‘big’. This is my favourite song off his new EP Phantoms, out on my pals Label Laissez Faire Club, and in fact I think it might be my favourite ever KHUSHI song, even more so than Magpie. I’m an actual fan of this song, y’know I appreciate it on ‘fan’ level, like I’d listen to this in my spare time, I’ve added it to a playlist on Spotify for instance (yeah you better bloody believe it). I can often appreciate that a song is good from many emerging or new artists, e.g. London Grammar, but very rarely does it transcend to ‘fan’ level and onto my Spotify playlists. Well done KHUSHI for breaking into one of my Spotify playlists, in my eyes you’ve made it, you’re there alongside The National, Van Morrison, City and Colour, Nick Drake, Beirut and many more, check out the playlist here if you like… go on I know you want to. There are only a few emerging artists that I’m an actual ‘fan’ of, and all of them like KHUSHI are playing at Akira’s stage at The Great Escape this year – remind yourself of the playlist below, and find details here.
