The coolest song of 2014? Where has it come from? Well I’ll tell you. We first met Shura about three years ago, she played a gig for us at The Hideaway in Tufnell Park and wowed us and the audience. So much so we decided we wanted to produce her, and that we did in her early demo song ‘River’. Electronic producer Hiatus heard it and the project Hiatus & Shura was born. We were massive fans of Hiatus & Shura here at Akira, and have posted their songs on the blog and in our playlists many many times. They became good friends of ours and we travelled out to Symbiosis Gathering in the Nevada desert with them in 2012.
Shura has spent last year somewhat reinventing herself as a solo artist and the result is bloody marvellous. It’s far more pop than anything she’s done before but it’s the best kind of pop, cool, credible pop with a fresh yet retro sound. This is an incredible debut and I know she will do great things, I’m very proud to have been there and known her at the beginning of her journey into music. We tipped her in our Rising Stars list of 2014 and this song ‘Touch’ is why. Now listen.
